Strange food portions, very big plates...which made meals look even smaller....very small portions of chips with meals...all a bit disappointing...and I don't think they like children even if they are well behaved!Price per person£10 - 20Food: 3Service: 2Atmosphere: 2

Jacqui Wilks a year agoWe recently had a delightful lunch to celebrate my mum's 70th birthday, surrounded by cherished friends and family. Joining us were my oldest school friend, her lovely daughter, and both our mums. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and laughter as we reminisced about old times and created new memories.
The restaurant provided a cozy and inviting ambiance, perfect for our special celebration. The staff were incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed, adding to the overall pleasant experience.
The menu was a hit with everyone. Some of
Us had the Caesar salad, which was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of dressing, the pork and cider pie was a hearty delight, with tender meat and a rich, flavorful gravy that complemented the crust beautifully. The cheese and red onion jacket potato was a comforting choice, with the creamy cheese and sweet onion melding together wonderfully (its a firm favourite!).
Each dish was perfectly prepared and added to the joy of our gathering. The presentation was lovely, and the portions were generous, ensuring that everyone left satisfied.
Overall, it was a memorable day, made even more special by the presence of lifelong friends. Celebrating such a significant milestone with those who have been part of our journey for so long was truly heartwarming. The restaurant provided the perfect setting for this joyous occasion, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.Price per person£20 - 30Food: 5Service: 5Atmosphere: 5 -

Joel P 10 months agoRandomly chose the Bakers arms on route home, we were greeted and made very welcome, we were given the choice where we would like to eat, we chose the restaurant, the waitress was lovely, I had cod chips and peas, the batter on the cod was awful, and the fish just tasted of lemon and pepper, this completely over powered the taste of the fish, the chips were hot and very nice as was the peas, my other half didn’t particularly like my fish either but he ate it as his meal was tiny, he had a fish mixed grill at £26 it was seriously over priced, the small portion he had, he enjoyed but it was more like the size of a starter, couldn’t fault the service, wouldn’t return, an expensive lunch to still feel hungry after wasn’t greatPrice per person£40 - 50Food: 3Service: 5Atmosphere: 3Parking spacePlenty of parkingParking optionsFree parking lot

Nigel Bannon 2 years agoDecent pub, friendly staff. We had lunch and the food was very nice. Only complaint was my ploughman's which was a very mean size for the price. Very small portion for a ploughman's compared with other pubs in the area. Wouldn't stop me returning but I wouldn't have the ploughman's again due to it not being value for money in my view.

Natalie Deacon 7 years agoGreat lunch with friends. Lovely atmosphere!!. We sat outside under a canopy which was nice. Big choice of menu. Good prices and friendly staff. You can also sit in the front beer garden too. If sitting inside the decor is lovely. It's not a big reataurant but that's what I like. Fantastic service. Highly recommend.

Sharon Yianni 3 years agoRude blonde lady behind the bar this lunchtime. The restaurant was very busy once I got to the front of the queue I asked if there was a table to which she bluntly replied NO. It was the delivery of the reply which got me. I turned on my heel with my two children and walked down the road to The Harvard Inn which was also very busy but was greeted by a friendly polite bar lady. Good customer service goes a long way.

Steve Crussell Edited 4 years agoSunday evening was very quiet ( only 2 tables with customers). The menu is a bit limited on Sundays but the steak was excellent, and the lamb roast was also very good. Certainly worth a revisit in the future.

P James 2 years agoIt’s ok for lunch if it’s not too busy. The pubs traditional and it hasn’t ‘sold out’ like the bear and the click inn. Still has the traditional feel and nice beer garden. Food is great, just gets a bit noisy at peak times but what ya gonna do?

Tina Clarke 4 years agoWe only stopped here for a drink before going off to eat elsewhere but we have no complaints. The table was cleaned, a cushion was given for one of our chairs that was missing one. Our drinks were all great. The gins were served in lovely glasses with fruit and a cardboard straw and the men were very happy with their lager and Guinness. We'll done Bakers Arms!

Jon Chaplin 2 years agoLovely olde English beamed pub with GK Abbot & IPA on hand pump. Best of all was the incredible food. Had liver n bacon with red wine onion gravy and fat chips. Stunningly tasty and elevated from trad English menu status to very fine dining. My wife had bass with sautéed new potatoes with lemon and garlic caper sauce & asparagus, which she said was superb. Quite honestly, from the outside we expected scampi & chips and 2 old boys playing dommys in the bar. How wrong were we: this is an extremely fine restaurant with a comforting pub vibe. Well done - we can't wait to re-visit!😀👍🍺🍺Price per person£30 - 40Food: 5Service: 5Atmosphere: 5

John Robinson 3 years agoA very pleasant place on the sunshine. It is dog friendly and spacious outside with ample car parking space although the inside was smaller than expected. The food was good but a bit pricey but everywhere the food prices seem to have gone up!
-
The Honest 4 years agoSo where to start....the service spot on, clean venue, separate dining area, nice English atmosphere.
The food, to die for.
We had scallops which they were cooked to perfection, tasty and well presented, and king prawns with cherry tomatoes which again they delighted both me and my wife, cooked perfectly with a nice spicy tent. Just perfect. We had a lemon sorbetto after this to change the taste in our mouths as we ordered to red meat after.
The fillet steak with mushrooms cooked perfectly rare as requested, very tender and juicy !!
The desert a classic apple crumble and cheese cake fabulous aswell.
You can see and taste their Chefs passion for proper food. Compliments again to the chefs and all the staff!!! -

Sophie Silk 2 years agoFrom the family ousted by the manager.
We arrived at 11.30 to get some lunch, 4 adults, 2 children (2 and 3 years old) and a newborn. We’d just ordered some drinks and the children started to get upset, mostly because they were hungry. They were crying for around 2 minutes before the rude manager stuck her head around the corner and said ‘excuse me, we’ve got other customers’, in a very patronising and aggressive manner. Baring in mind we were the only people sat in the restaurant section and we hadn’t even ordered food yet, we were very shocked and frustrated by this response. If it had been going on for a long time and the restaurant was full I would understand but this was a completely unnecessary, unprofessional way to deal with the situation. If this is their attitude then it should be made into a child free establishment. We left before ordering food and went elsewhere. Wouldn’t recommend going if you have children. -
Keith G Edited 7 years agoFood very good, well cooked and well presented. Although I wish they could learn how to make a proper Eton Mess, particularly with fresh strawberries in season. Sadly the service throughout was extremely lacking, in fact very poor, even when many of the tables had been cleared. Will not return to this restaurant as there are plenty of other places to choose from.

Kerry Hallatt 7 years agoWe were looking for somewhere for a pub lunch and found this place. It's very welcoming with a wood burning stove and the staff were really friendly. We had club sandwiches and the most amazing cheesy chilli chips (not what we expected when we ordered and actually a thousand times better!). Really good value for money and can thoroughly recommend!

Darren Haines 6 years agoI tried to book a table on line last year & when arrived with a party of 6 was told there was not a table available and got an explanation which I accepted. I then booked again and had a lovely meal in which we decided to return on another 4 occasions. I booked again on line hoping to get a table for my 24th anniversary in which the booking was successful for about 2 hours. I then received a text message saying sorry we are fully booked but you could have a table at the bar. The pub is not the biggest the bar being quite small & not the most romantic setting for a anniversary. I asked if a table would be available on Saturday which to my delight it was. We turned up Saturday evening to first be told I hadn't made a booking in which I started looking through my phone for the text messages in which the staff member said yes there is a table but we can not serve you as our extractor fan is broken. I Know these things happen but a simple text message to your first serving that evening to let them know that it would be cancelled or that there will be a delay even if the incident happened 10, 15 or 20 minutes before hand. So on the basis that there on line bookings are still pointless & that the staff do not communicate to customers or seem to have no empathy towards your evening being ruined. We were planning on that evening to book a table for 6 for my sons birthday on Monday but I don't trust that will happen as we have no faith in actually being able to have a simple meal in a local pub. They really do need to get themselves organised and offer a better customer service especially being in the service industry.

jeannette hunsdon 5 years agoBooked for my mother's 80th lunch before going to spa .8 of us went .we took a balloon to go on the table and the (older one with blond hair)waitress said she will give her a free dessert and sing but they did not put a candle on as promised or sing it was just put it in front of my mum ... they did do it for the 79yr old on the other table though and to top it up then charged us . We questioned it with the other lovely waitress who looked embarrassed but when asked the waitress ran off saying no idea what your talking about... then kept away so we could not ask her .. she let the pub down .. real shame ..

Lynn Dyke 8 years agoFriendly, very good service, enjoyable food. A very well run pub, the sort of pub you can relax in. What was so nice to see was, when the restaurant section was empty and food had stopped being served, the staff really thoroughly cleaned the area, tables, Matt's, mirrors etc etc. A pleasure to see and made me know I will come back because the staff care.

apnoakes 3 years agoMy Mum booked a table back in April for a family get together and was required to pay deposit of £5 per head which worked out at £60. Unfortunatley a number of us went down with Covid a few days before so we decided to cancel. My Mum phoned up to cancel and get the deposit back and was told she could hold the deposit over for a later date. Mum explained that getting our family together is not always easy and it could be up to 6 months. She was told that this was fine. When she tried to rearrange for early September she was told there was no record of this and showing a bank statement of the £60 payment was not proof of deposit. They took the booking and said they would check on social media to see if anyone had any recollection of the booking and didn't take a further deposit. They said they would let us know. On the morning of the booking they contacted us saying they had been trying to contact us all week (they hadn't we checked the phone log) because they had received no deposit. My Mum explained the situation and was virtually accused of lying. They then said as a goodwill gesture they would take £20 off the table which seemed a bit strange since they had just implied she was making the whole thing up. We took our custom elsewhere although we've paid £60 for essentially nothing and the whole thing has been dealt with very badly. Won't be going back in a hurry.

CRITICAL CONSUMER 6 years agoA truly authentic English pub/restaurant! The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, ideal for families with young children as it has a garden in the front and tables outside in the back. The food is typical English fare, although the value for money was a bit disappointing. We ordered the three roast dinners, which are typical on Sundays in England, and several things left much to be desired. The roast potatoes were meager, the vegetables were scarce, and the gravy, a meat sauce that is typically served separately as many people don't want it, was poured on top of everything. This doesn't bother me as I love it, but my wife does, as she's not a big fan of sauces. I suggested changing it, but she was so hungry that she ate it anyway. The meat was very good, and the vegetables were fresh and tasty. The roast dinner cost around £13 each. It's an ideal place to have a drink in the afternoon with your partner, as it's an aesthetically pleasing pub with an authentic atmosphere. A pint of beer £5.50... Ouch!!! Still recommended for the place itself.
